FAQs

Is it possible to get a UK bank account in the currency of my own country?
Yes, you can open a second account in any tradeable currency but you need to open a Pound Sterling account first before requesting a different account number for the account in your currency.

However, transactions from your foreign currency account CANNOT be made via the online banking. The only possibility to make transactions, in most UK banks, is via telephone banking or fax service.

Will I get an overdraft facility for my international business bank account?
You will not normally get an overdraft facility when have just started a company. Banks are extremely cautious with credit products these days. You may apply for an overdraft after a few months of regular income so the bank can see the there is a reputable business. Of course this also depends on the securities and guarantees you can provide. If they are good you may get an overdraft sooner rather than later.

What are the specifications for the private bank statement as proof of address to open an international bank account?
The statements must be your most current bank account statements of the last 3 months.

They must be from your private bank account, with your name and PRIVATE address (“c/o”, name of a company or statements with only the name of your partner will NOT be accepted by the bank)
Some english banks, like HSBC, often require that there must be at least 10 transactions on the statements so that the bank can see that you really use the account. Furthermore, they must not be printouts from the internet or the bank.
